Why AMD Embedded - Part 8 of 9 in a Series Presented by Symmetry Electronics and SemiconductorStore.com

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

Our first illustration shows a snapshot of the simplified yearly cost comparison between a network of 100 PC-based Digital Signage systems and 100 AMD Embedded System-based Digital Signage systems.  Acquisition, service, replacement and energy costs are represented.  After year one, PC seems the cheaper option but as early as year 2, the TCO of an AMD Embedded systems is significantly less than half the cost of a PC system.

Our second illustration demonstrates the cumulative cost comparison between a network of 100 PC-based Digital Signage systems and 100 AMD Embedded Digital Signage systems but over 5 years time, the AMD Embedded system can reach a savings of over $49,000.

As you can see, an AMD Embedded system could offer a lower TCO as early as year 2 simply because it is more reliable and consumes less power. When you start factoring in the expenses associated with managing and supporting multiple configurations, and increasing failure rates of PCs as they approach 5 years of continuous operation, the TCO advantage of an AMD Embedded system becomes even more apparent.

In part 9 of our “Why AMD Embedded” series, we will summarize our findings over the past several weeks and explore the ways AMD is focusing more resources on technology and product innovation including high value embedded products with a centralized planning process and increased investments in the front end of product lifecycles.

Symmetry Electronics (and its e-commerce division: SemiconductorStore.com) is an authorized AMD Embedded distributor.
