Telit launches first-of-its-kind simWISE technology
Internet of Things enabler Telit Communications Plc (LON:TCM) has launched its simWISE cellular module embedded SIM technology today.
The technology, which is the first of its kind, was developed alongside Telit’s Sweden-listed partner, Tele2.
simWISE can act as a replacement or complement for manufacturers of cellular-connected devices using the traditional SIM card and tray, Telit said.
It added that manufacturers of connected products that embed Telit IoT modules with simWISE can significantly reduce the time to market and complexity, as well as improve the customer experience.
This initial release of simWISE is just for mass-market 2G devices and is the first step in Telit’s roadmap to deliver a broad set of innovative technologies related to embedded connectivity.
"As the IoT market matures and devices continue to get less expensive and smaller, it is essential we make it easier for enterprises to harness the growth potential of IoT by using cost effective and simple solutions such as simWISE,” said Telit chief technology officer Alon Segal.
“Removal of the physical SIM card from product design dramatically reduces the risk, time to market, complexity, and cost of manufacturing IoT devices.”
