The world’s smallest PANdrive™ smart motor solution by Trinamic includes a NEMA8 stepper motor combined with the TMCM-1210 controller / driver for precise motion.

Hamburg, 01 April 2019: TRINAMIC Motion Control announces the PD20-1-1210, a highly miniaturized mechatronic solution optimal for applications with a small form factor. Offering state of the art motion control, the PD20-1-1210 is ideal for lab automation, robotics, life sciences, biotechnology and many other applications without the need for previous motion control expertise.

Michael Randt, Founder and CEO of Trinamic explains: “Miniaturization is transforming applications across the board, enabling new use cases. With this new PANdrive™ we not only support miniaturized applications, we also make the world’s best motion control available to anyone, driving innovation without the need for previous motion control experience.”

Like all other PANdrive™ smart motors, the PD20-1-1210 embeds advanced motor control functions, motion control, and PLC features, into a single cost-efficient PANdrive™. A single connector cable is all that’s needed for plug-and-play motion control.

The smart motor comes with an RS485 interface and Trinamic’s intuitive TMCL™ protocol. Together with the free TMCL-IDE, this allows for easy implementation of standalone program flow. Graphical tools and wizards guide through the parameterization where engineers can select which technologies they want to apply. The module has a reference switch input that can be programmed as left or right limit switch. In addition, it comes with stallGuard2™ for sensorless homing and an integrated rotary hall encoder.

With the TMC2130 at its heart, the PD20-1-1210 offers leading edge current control technologies as well as various ramping profiles. The high-resolution microstepping with up to 256 microsteps per full-step generates vibration free positioning, reducing noise and jitter. With Trinamic’s patented StealthChop™ current control for silent positioning at low speed and SpreadCycle™ for highest performance at high speed, the PANdrive™ provides superior performance in a compact package.

Features and benefits:

  • NEMA8 stepper motor with 0.0175Nm holding torque
  • +6. . . 30V DC supply voltage
  • Up to 0.6A RMS motor current
  • RS485 interface
  • Integrated simple hall-sensor based encoder
  • 1x multi-purpose input with controller/driver
