The MediaTek CryptoCore cryptographic module in the MediaTek Helio X30 has been granted FIPS 140-2 Validation Certificate (cert #3264) by The National Institute of Standards and Technology of the United States of America (NIST).

The MediaTek CryptoCore cryptographic module is an in-silicon security engine with cryptographic accelerator capabilities. It provides fundamental security services for the platform, including secure boot, secure life cycle state, platform identity and key management. In addition, it offers high-throughput cryptography operations that are suitable for a diverse set of use cases, such as secure playback of DRM-protected media content, IPSec VPNs, TLS/SSL link protection, drive encryption and much more.

The FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) Publication 140-2  developed  by NIST is a U.S. government computer security standard used to prove the secure credentials of cryptographic modules. Protection of a cryptographic module within a security system is necessary to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the information protected by the module.

While typically the FIPS 140-2 evaluation is required for the sale of cryptographic products to the US Federal Government , as well as regulated industries such as financial and healthcare institutions, increasingly non-regulated industries are embracing FIPS 140-2 to prove their security worthiness in a digital world that is increasingly security-focused.

The MediaTek CryptoCore cryptographic module is an essential building block in the MediaTek mobile security platform, and the certificate affirms that MediaTek’s security solution meets the higher  international security standards, and its deep commitment to protecting information confidentiality and integrity . While the FIPS 140-2 certification was applied to the CryptoCore module within the MediaTek Helio X30 platform, the same module is integrated into many MediaTek smartphone SoCs including MediaTek Helio P60, P23, P22, A22, plus even entry-level SoC's such as MT6739. Tablet products include the latest MT8183, MT8788, MT8766 and MT8786, and the Crytocore module is planned as a feature in many future MediaTek products as well.
