In case you missed anything, here’s a run-down of everything we announced at CES 2019. At the MediaTek press event, David Ku, CFO, stated that our ambition is to bring AI everywhere with a wide-ranging ecosystem of edge AI hardware processing solutions paired with comprehensive software tools. This will enable brands to really let their imaginations free to create incredible and innovative new devices.

Smart TV & Smart Displays

MediaTek has announced its latest AI picture quality technology (AI PQ), 8K TV chipsets and shown product demonstrations of new standards such as ATSC 3.0, that will deliver 4K broadcasts.

The new AI PQ technology brings real-time artificial intelligence to scene detection. This makes smart TVs actually smart: it can evaluate every frame and differentiate between those with people and other types of scenes – such as a landscape, indoor scene or sports arena – to automatically make dynamic, fine-tuned adjustments to the image parameters such as sharpness and skin-tone, for maximum picture quality. Previous standards of conventional picture quality enhancement were a single setting, regardless of the content being played. With AI PQ processing, MediaTek-powered smart TVs simply deliver better picture quality without compromises.

Voice Assistants & Portable Audio

The new MT8518 is specifically designed for premium voice assistant devices, portable speakers and smart home appliances. It builds on the huge success of the MT8516 that made MediaTek the market-leading chipmaker in voice assistant devices.

For battery-powered, portable devices in particular, MT8518’s ultra-low power playback can provide 2x longer playback at the same power use compared to previous generation solutions and its AI-enhanced voice wake-up represents a significant milestone in power-efficiency. Meanwhile, it's new, powerful edge AI hardware enables natural language processing, with off-line command recognition, enhancing responsiveness and privacy. When it comes to product design, by using MediaTek’s PowerAQTM, audio brands have a powerful acoustic tuning tool to imbue the best quality in their exciting new products.

Inside the MT8518, it introduces a highly tailored array of processing functions including Cortex-A53 cores, Cortex-M4, audio DSPs and an AI processing unit (APU) custom-designed by MediaTek for audio. Altogether it offers a mix of high performance, ultra-low power use and an incredibly flexible design opportunity for product makers.

In addition to the MT8518, the MT8715 is a chipset for voice assistants integrated with displays and cameras. It will bring users a more interactive experience and even more potential capabilities thanks to its advanced image signal processing (ISP) and AI processing unit (APU) technologies that make image capturing faster, clearer and with excellent power efficiency.

Wi-Fi 6 Connectivity

We’ve launched the first combo Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), AP and Bluetooth in a single chip – with its unique twin-radio simultaneous co-existence – to bring faster, more reliable connectivity to the home and business. The platform can be used in a wide range of products such as wireless access points, routers, gateways and repeaters for either home or business.

In addition to essential features such as ODFMA, MU-MIMO, TWT, Spatial Reuse and 1024QAM, MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 6 chipset also brings multi-user packet rescheduling to provide a higher performance for latency-sensitive applications, such as games or streaming video, ensuring there’s zero lag.

Both 2x2 and 4x4 antenna options are available: complying with the latest standards, while also offering a flexible architecture to support the Wi-Fi 6 specification when it is finalized later in 2019.

MediaTek is also leading the deployment of the Wi-Fi Alliance EasyMesh standard through its smart home products. The new standard extends the Wi-Fi signal for total access in the home and beyond - providing a single Wi-Fi network coverage as far as you need it.

Automotive

Our Autus platform is growing again with the launch of a new series of advanced sensors that will pave the way towards greater levels of assisted driving, and eventually, autonomous vehicles. Since our entry into the automotive chip market, we've leveraged our significant semiconductor R&D capabilities and comprehensive technical experience to make inroads with top auto manufacturers and partners.

Today, MediaTek offers a comprehensive, vehicle-wide platform that consists of Telematics; comprehensive in-vehicle communication solutions for Internet of Vehicles – IoV, Infotainment; advanced multimedia and display technologies, V-ADAS (Vision Advanced Driver Assistance System); cameras paired to low-power visual processing units (VPU) that provide a high-level of edge processing and functionality, and mmWave Radar; industry-leading CMOS mmWave Radar solutions that can accommodate short to long-range sensing with ultra-low latency and fine-detail resolution.

MediaTek’s Autus mmWave Radar solution was put into mass production last year, while its in-vehicle communication system, in-vehicle information entertainment system and vision driver assistance system have been recognized by the world's leading automobile manufacturers and partners ahead of mass production this year.

Learn more about the deeper features of each product group in the CES press release, or via our Autus automotive pages.

Mobile

For smartphone fans, last month saw the launches of the MediaTek Helio P90 and P35; new high-performance and performance-mainstream chipsets respectively; with the P90 leading the industry in AI performance. Smartphones using the P35 are available today, while P90-infused devices are being readied to launch in the next few months.

For 5G, MediaTek also announced its Helio M70 modem, fulfilling the industry need for a comprehensive multi-mode, global solution.
