Capacitive Touch Sensors

A capacitive touch sensor relies on conductive touch to detect and measure proximity, pressure, force, humidity, fluid level, acceleration, and position and displacement. Capacitive touch sensors work because the human body is an electrical conductor. Therefore, when a person makes contact with the surface of a capacitive touch screen, for example, a distortion of the screen’s electromagnetic field is generated.

Highly sensitive, low-power and highly configurable capacitive touch sensors are commonly found in home appliances, instrument and control panels, white goods, medical equipment, consumer electronics, and lighting control.

Through manufacturers Semtech and Silicon Labs, Symmetry offers a variety of capacitive touch sensor types (button, slider, proximity, and wheel) to meet your specific design needs.
